This thematic lexicon is the culmination of a personal and professional journey that began more than thirty years ago — when I first immersed myself in the depths of English and Arabic, initially as a student, and later as a teacher. What started as a vague idea gradually took shape, driven by a persistent need: to gather the most essential words, phrases, and expressions across a wide range of fields in order to deepen my understanding of both languages and overcome communication and translation barriers. Unlike traditional English-Arabic dictionaries in the Arab world, this Contemporary Thematic Vocabulary is not organized alphabetically or based on lists of synonyms and antonyms. Instead, it is structured around thematic domains — such as tourism, sports, education, fashion, and more — each brimming with relevant, up-to-date vocabulary rather than outdated or obsolete terms. My goal has been to create a resource as dynamic and evolving as the languages it serves. Whether you are a student, teacher, translator, journalist, or simply a curious reader, I hope this lexicon becomes a valuable and trusted companion in your pursuit of linguistic excellence. Within each thematic section, you will find carefully organized subthemes (for example, the broader theme of “Economy” includes key areas such as advertising, investment, marketing, and labor), crafted not only to save you time and effort but also to help you delve deeper into each topic. The vocabulary in this work has been gathered over decades from authentic sources — books, media, conversations, and the ever-evolving landscapes of culture and technology. I make no claim to perfection. Some areas may still require expansion, and I warmly welcome thoughtful feedback for future editions. If this work helps you write, translate, or better appreciate the nuances of English and Arabic, then it will have fulfilled its purpose. Lexicographers, much like soldiers, often remain unrecognized despite their vital contributions. Perhaps this work, now in your hands, stands as the clearest testament to the dedication, sacrifice, and perseverance behind its creation. Mostafa CHAKIR Author
