الـحـيـاة الـدنـيـويـة و الأخـرويـة.

حـيـاة الـدنـيـا و الآخـرة.
End of the World/ Doomsday.
The Day of Resurrection on which people will be resurrected to receive recompense and reckoning.
يـوم الـبـعـث الـذي يـبـعـث فـيـه الـنـاس لـيُـرَوا أعـمـالـهـم.
To bring the dead back to life.
Heaven (= paradise) – Hell(fire).
الـجـنـة (= الـفـردوس) – (نـار) جـهـنـم.
الـعـالـم الـسـفـلـي: الـجـحـيـم.
To go to hell – to burn in hell.
يـذهـب إلـى/ يُـحـرق فـي نـار جـهـنـم.
God, who seems so close to us, is outside the conception of the human mind.
يـنـدّ الـلـه، الـذي يـبـدو شـديـد الـقـرب مـنـا، عـن الـتـصـور الـبـشـريّ.
The universe is full of meaning that is far too immense for the human mind to grasp.
الـكـون حـافـل بـالـمـعـانـي الـغـزيـرة الـتـي لا يـسـتـطـيـع الـعـقـل الـبـشـري إدراكـهـا.
Inconceivable dimensions (= beyond our understanding).
أبـعـاد لا يـمـكـن تـصـورهـا (= خـارجـة عـن نـطـاق فـهـمـنـا).
God, in whose existence few believe, has promised an everlasting home in heaven (there is no lasting home on earth) where devotees could enjoy happiness such as they had never known before during their earthly life.
وَعَـدَ الـرب، الـذي يـعـتـقـد الـقـلـيـل بـوجـوده، بـدار دائـمـة فـي الـجـنـة (لـيـس هـنـاك مـن دار دائـمـة علـى الأرض) حـيـث يـسـتـطـيـع الـمـؤمـنـون الاسـتـمـتـاع بـالـسـعـادة الـتـي لـم تـخـطـر لـهـم علـى بـال مـن قـبـل خـلال حـيـاتـهـم الـدنـيـويـة.
The next life – otherworldlines.
الـحـيـاة الأخـرويـة – الآخـرة.
The faithful is ensured a spot in heaven.
يُـضـمـن لـلـمـؤمـن مـكـان فـي الـجـنـة.
The end time is right at hand.
An apocalyptic figure prophesying doom.
شـخـصـيـة قـيـامـيـة تـتـنـبـأ بـيـوم الـحـسـاب.
To redeem oneself – redemption.
يُـخـلـّص نـفـسـه مـن الـخـطـيـئـة – الـخـلاص.
عـالـم يـحـكـمـه الـقـدر.
Acts of fate, built and controlled by God.
أفـعـال مُـقـدَّرة مـن خـلـق الـلـه و تـدبـيـره.
سـبـق الـسـيـف الـعـَذلَ.
He wanted to live longer but the fates decreed/ decided otherwise.
أراد أن يُـعـمـّر طـويـلاً، لـكـن الـقـدر شـاء غـيـر ذلـك.
A similar fate befell her.
حـالـفـهـا مـصـيـر مـمـاثـل.
مـصـيـر عـادل/ غـيـر مـسـتـحـق.
A zealous worker for the Almighty.
مـتـعـبـد نـاسـك فـي خـدمـة الـرب.
An indefatigable labourer for the Lord.
To be in constant touch with one’s Maker.
يَـكـون علـى اتـصـال مـسـتـمـر مـع الـخـالـق.
An uninterrupted communing with God.
عـلاقـة مـوصـولـة بـالـرب.
A devout Muslim is one who devotes/ dedicates himself heart and soul to the service of his Creator.
الـمـسـلـم الـورع هـو الـذي يـكـرس نـفـسـه قـلـبـاً و روحـاً خـدمـة لـخـالـقـه.
To practise unceasing prayer.
يُـقـيـم الـصـلاة مـن غـيـر انـقـطـاع.
To follow pious inclinations such as self-conquest, mortification, humility, obedience, prayer, silence, retirement, and detachment from the world and its cares / pleasures.
يَـتـبـع نـزوعـات ديـنـيـة كـإخـضـاع الـذات و إمـاتـة الـجـسـد و الـتـواضـع و الـطـاعـة و الـصـلاة و الـصـمـت و الـخـلـوة و الانـعـزال عـن الـعـالـم و مـلـذاتـه/ مـتـعـه.
He was born of a priestly family and trained in the service of God.
وُلـِدَ لـعـائـلـة مـتـديـنـة و تـدرب علـى خـدمـة الـلـه.
To raise s.o. in the Catholic faith.
يُـنـشـّﺊ شـخـصـاً علـى الـديـانـة الـمـسـيـحـيـة.
A pious worshipper practised silence as a means of acquiring humility.
مـارس مـتـعـبـّد تـقـي الـصـمـت بـوصـفـه وسـيـلـة لاكـتـسـاب الـتـواضـع.
To practise mortification/ self-torture.
يـمـارس الإمـاتـة الـذاتـيـة لـلـجـسـد.
To cultivate an image of moral rectitude.
يَـصـقـل صـورة لـلاسـتـقـامـة الأخـلاقـيـة.
To root out self-complacency of one’s heart.
يـسـتـأصـل الـرضـا الـذاتـيَّ مـن الـقـلـب.
To lead a life of contemplative prayer and rigorous fasting.
يَـحـيـا حـيـاة الـصـلاة الـتـأمـلـيـة و الـصـيـام الـصـارم.
To lead a prayerful life.
يـعـيـش حـيـاة مـلـؤهـا الـتـقـوى.
After a life spent in self-sacrifice,…
بـعـد حـيـاة أنـْفـِقـَت فـي الـتـضـحـيـة بـالـذات،…
Poor and obscure in this world’s possessions and honours, he was rich in grace and merit, and eminent before God in the nobility and beauty of holiness.
فـقـيـر مـغـمـور كـمـا قـد يـبـدو فـي عـالـم الـمـمـتـلـكـات و الـتـشـريـفـات هـذا، كـان غـنـيـاً بـالـفـضـيـلـة و الـقـوة الأخـلاقـيـة، رفـيـع الـمـنـزلـة أمـام الـلـه بـالـنـبـل و جـمـال الـقـداسـة.
Death comes like a thief in the night. Without prior notification, it comes to take us to the world beyond the grave. The body returns to dust where it came from and the soul is transgressed.
يَـأتـي الـمـوت كمـا الـلـص لـيـلا. وبـدون سـابـق إشـعـار يَـأتـي لـيـأخـذنـا إلـى عـالـم مـا وراء الـقـبـر، فـيـعـود الـجـسـد إلـى الـتـراب حـيـث أتـى و تُـتـَجـاوز الـروح.
To be constantly in fear of one’s life.
يَـكـون فـي خـوف دائـم علـى حـيـاتـه.
To welcome death with open arms.
يُـرحّـب بـالـمـوت بـحـرارة.
To die a humiliating death.
To peacefully die in one’s sleep.
يَـمـوت بـسـلام فـي نـومـه.
To lay on one’s deathbed.
يَـسـتـلـقـي علـى فـراش الـمـوت.
The spirit still inhabits his body.
مـاتـزال الـروح سـاكـنـة جـسَـده.
His soul ascended to heaven.
صـعـدت روحـه إلـى الـسـمـاء.
تـغـمـده الـلـه بـواسـع رحـمـتـه.
The angel of death will take our souls.
سـيـقـبـض مـلاك الـمـوت أرواحـنـا.
The torment of the grave.
يَـمـوت مـثـقـلا بـالـصـغـائـر.
Sin is the transgression of law.
الإثـم انـتـهـاك لـلـقـانـون.
