FAITH:
:الإيـمـان
For fear of being persecuted, true believers secretly practise their religion. They conform to the prevailing customs outwardly under pain of death, but practise their faith in secret.
يـمـارس الـمـؤمـنـون الـحـقـيـقـيـون عـقـيـدتـهـم سـراً خـشـيـة الاضـطـهـاد، فـهـم يـعـمـلـون، ظـاهـريـاً، وفـق الـعـادات الـسـائـدة اتـقـاء الـمـوت، بـيـد أنـهـم يـمـارسـون عـقـيـدتـهـم فـي الـخـفـاء.
He professed his faith openly and in consequence was submitted to the most cruel tortures before he died kneeling in prayer. He patiently endured the scorn of…and the fierce blows of the whip for having publicly confessed his newly adopted faith. He endured his torments with joy and his resistance only served to inflame his tormentor all the more. He died under the blows inflicted by the hands of the executioner. “I fear not death,” he said. أعـلـن إيـمـانـه جـهـاراً، فـأخـْضِـع، نـتـيـجـة ذلـك، لأقـصـى أنـواع الـتـعـذيـب وحـشـيـة قـبـل أن يـمـوت راكـعـاً عـنـد الـصـلاة. لـقــد تـحـمَّــل ازدراء…بـصـبـر و ضـربـات الـسـوط الـعـنـيـفـة لإقـدامـه علـى الاعـتـراف عـلانـيـة بـديـنـه الـجـديـد، و تـحـمَّـل الـتـعـذيـب بـسـرور و لـم تـزد استـمـاتـتـه جـلاده إلا غـيـظـاً. تُـوفـِيَّ جـراء الـضـربـات الـمـنـهـالـة عـلـيـه مـن قـبـل الـجـلاد. قـال: ” لاأهـاب الـمـوت”. وكـمـا صـمـد (دانـيـيـل) فـي وجـه قـسـوة الإغـريـق و اضـطـهـادهـم، فـقـد ظـل هـذا ” الـمـحـارب الـمـقـدس” مـتـشـبـثـا ً بـ/ مـخـلـصـا ً لـديـنـه.
To be pelted with stones.
To be clubbed to death by those he had come to save.
تـعـرﱠض لـلـضـرب بـالـعـصـيّ حـتـى الـمـوت مـن لـدن أولـئـك الـذيـن أتـى لـتـخـلـيـصـهـم.
A committed person dies in support of his convictions.
يـمـوت الـشـخـص الـمـلـتـزم دفـاعـاً عـن اقـتـنـاعـاتـه الـراسـخـة.
He was by order of the king cast into a caldron of boiling oil but came forth unhurt.
أُلـقـي بـه، بـأمـر مـن الـمـلـك، فـي مـرجـل زيـت مـغـلـيّ، لـكـنـه خـرج مـنـه سـالـمـا.ً
Those who martyred for the faith were revered as saints.
يُـبـجـَّل أولـئـك الـذيـن اسـتـشـهـدوا فـي سـبـيـل الـديـن بـوصـفـهـم أولـيـاء/ قـديـسـيـن.
A multi-religious country.
بـلـد مـتـعـدد الـديـانـات.
Total freedom for religious worship.
حـريـة تـامـة فـي الـتـعـبّـد.
A hotbed of anti-Semitic sentiment.
مـرتـع الـحـسّ الـمـعـادي لـلـسـامـيـة.
Comments that offend people’s religious sensibilities.
تـعـلـيـقـات تـجـرح أحـاسـيـس الـنـاس الـديـنـيـة.
الأخـلاقـيـات الـعـربـيـة.
To impose their faith by force on unwilling heretics, especially those adopting state-imposed atheism.
يـفـرضـون مـلـَّـتهـم بـالـقـوة علـى الـهـراطـقـة الـمـعـارضـيـن، وخـاصـة مـنـهـم أولـئـك الـذيـن يـتـبـنـون الإلـحـاد الـذي تـفـرضـه الـدولـة.
To go on propagating their faith with renewed vigor among laymen, much against their wishes.
يـسـتـمـرون فـي نـشـر ديـانـتـهـم بـنـشـاط مـتـجـدد بـيـن أنـاس عـاديـيـن ضـداً عـن إرادتـهـم.
الـتـوفـيـق بـيـن الـمـعـتـقـدات الـديـنـيـة الـمـتـعـارضـة.
Misrepresentation of Islam in the West.
تـشـويـه الإسـلام فـي الـغـرب.
To spread the message of Islam.
To propagate Islam outside the kingdom. To serve this end, preachers should correct their wrong understanding of the religion.
نـَشـْـرُ الإسـلام خـارج الـمـمـلـكـة: لـبـلـوغ هـذا الـهـدف، وجـب علـى الـوعـاظ تـصـحـيـح فـهـمـهـم الـخـاطـﺊ لـلـديـن.
To place emphasis on understanding the concepts behind the religion rather than rituals.
يُـشـدّد علـى اسـتـيـعـاب الـمـفـاهـيـم الـكـامـنـة وراء الـديـن بـدلا مـن الـطـقـوس.
Free distribution of Islamic literature.
الـتـوزيـع الـمـجـانـي لـلأدبـيـات الإسـلامـيـة.
To abolish the worship of idols clearly shows religious intolerance.
يُـظـهـر الـقـضـاء علـى عـبـادة الأوثـان بـوضـوح الـتـعـصـب الـديـنـي
What people lack in experience with the church, they make up in faith.
مـا يـفـتـقـده الـنـاس فـي تـجـربـتـهـم مـع الـكـنـيـسـة يـعـوضـونـه بـالإيـمـان.
To accept sth on faith (= without proof).
يُـسـلـّم بـشـيء (= مـن غـيـر حـجـة).
To lose faith in s.o. (= not to trust him anymore).
يـفـقـد الـثـقـة فـي شـخـص (= لا يـثـق فـيـه بـعـد الآن).
To have unwavering/ unshakable faith in a cause.
لـديـه إيـمـان راسـخ بـقـضـيـة مـا.
His belief in God is unshakable.
إيـمـانـه بـالـلـه إيـمـانٌ راسـخ.
To shake s.o.’s faith in God.
يُـزعـزع إيـمـان شـخـص بـربـه.
To be wholeheartedly devoted to Islamic piety.
يُـكـرّس بـإخـلاص حـيـاتـه لـلـعـقـيـدة الإسـلامـيـة.

غـيـرت…مـنـظـور الـكـافـر.
يُـشـوّه سـمـعـة مـلـة شـخـص.
To believe in the existence of Allah.
