Colour marks the beginning of human aesthetics. All colours possess their own characteristic nature and significance. Red, the colour of sun and fire, is symbolic of intensity, vitality and animation. Pink is the colour of dawn. It is liked by ambitious people who wish to rise in the world. Mauve and purple are intimate colours indicative of closeness and love. Violet is perhaps associated with people living in a dream world. Greens and browns are the colours of nature and earth, symbolic of truth and realism. Blue is the colour of the sky and the sea, indicative of depth, serenity and placidity. Yellow denotes industriousness; whereas, grey denotes uncommitment and uninvolvement in everyday activities. Black denotes intense dissatisfaction with almost everything.

The still landscape is enlivened by a dash of red, the intensity of the sky faintly tinged with pale blue, and the lake and waterfalls are great simple washes of deep blue, contrasted with long streaks of chalky white, intricately scratched and dabbed into a rich foam.
